A Trip Down Memory Lane in Marbella

Apart from its glorious sandy beaches sprinkled with beach bar huts, Marbella holds a hidden gem that tourists might not have the pleasure of uncovering: the Old Town or 'Casco Antiguo' is one of the many things to do and see in Marbella.

Casco Antiguo is a heavily shaded maze of narrow cobbled streets; the perfect respite from the blazing Spanish sunshine. It's as if you're in another world what with the sheer variety of shops, bars and restaurants available. Dining in Marbella (here especially) ranges from elegant, gourmet meals to traditional tapas, snacks and light lunches.

Take the highly recommended ZoiZoi restaurant as an example: located at Plaza Altamira and set in an old converted house, this place comes with quality service and strong Spanish influences in the food. (For more info on accommodation please see marbella.mydestinationinfo.com
That's another thing about Marbella's Old Town; the plazas. They're everywhere. Each one has something different on offer. The most popular place is Orange Square, right at the heart of the town. Here you can find the tourist office which offers maps and general guidance around the town. You can also relax by the beautiful 17th Century fountain, drink in hand, under a table umbrella at one of the numerous cafes.

From there, the place is free to explore at your leisure. It's a great place for shopping with its Calzados shoe shop. There are also plenty of funky boutiques to be rummaged through; you're bound to find a quirky titbit lurking on one of the shelves here.
If shopping isn't on the agenda, don't worry, there are other options. Take the Bonsai Museum for example. It's situated not far from Old Town. Admissions are €3.00 for adults, €1.50 for children. It's open Monday to Sunday from 10:00am – 1:30pm then from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. The museum houses a collection of over 300 miniature trees which is said to be one of the best collections in Europe. A centrepiece of a rockery and fountain dressed in exotic flora and fauna makes this place an unavoidable slice of tropical beauty.
